About WINGS OF THE NORTH INC

Wings of the North (WOTN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit aviation museum and educational organization based at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Founded in February 1998, the organization preserves and presents aviation history through its collection of static and flying aircraft, museum exhibits, speaker series, school presentations, public air events, and an active restoration program. WOTN’s programming emphasizes education and community engagement: it operates public events (formerly AirExpo, now AirFair), a monthly speaker series, volunteer-led restorations (including work on a BT-15 and other historic aircraft), and partnerships that display the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame plaques at the museum. The organization continues to pursue long-term goals for a larger museum and educational facility in the Twin Cities region. WOTN is volunteer-driven and donor-supported; it maintains a public-facing museum, an events calendar, an online shop whose proceeds support operations, and recurring fundraisers (including an annual sweepstakes) to underwrite restorations and public programming.

Notable achievements

Home of the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame plaques

Houses and displays the plaques for Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame inductees and hosts public unveiling events for new inductees, strengthening the museum’s role as a regional center for aviation history and recognition.

Long-running public air events (AirExpo → AirFair)

Built and operated a premier Twin Cities aviation event for many years (AirExpo) and introduced a successor public event, AirFair, in 2025 to continue large-scale public flight demonstrations, static displays, and educational outreach.

Sustained aircraft restoration program

Maintains an active restoration hangar and volunteer restoration projects (including ongoing BT-15 work and other historically significant aircraft) that return aircraft to display or flight and provide hands-on educational opportunities.
