About West Broadway Business & Area Coalition (also known as West Broadway Area Coalition)

The West Broadway Business & Area Coalition (WBC) is a nonprofit, donor-facing 501(c)(3) organization that leads economic development, cultural programming, and corridor revitalization along West Broadway Avenue in North Minneapolis. WBC serves as the management entity for the West Broadway Improvement District and partners with the City of Minneapolis and local stakeholders to support small businesses, public-space improvements, and community events.

In recent years WBC has focused on business technical assistance, cultural placemaking (including murals and performing-arts programming), large public events such as Open Streets West Broadway, and targeted reinvestment following civil unrest in 2020. The organization operates membership and grant programs, convenes business owners and residents, and advances redevelopment and youth workforce initiatives announced in 2026.

Notable achievements

Reinvestment after 2020 corridor disruption

WBC coordinated substantial reinvestment in the West Broadway corridor after the 2020 unrest, directing nearly all donated and public recovery funds into business support, corridor improvements, cultural programming, and community safety to stabilize and rebuild local commerce.

Record Open Streets and community activation

WBC expanded Open Streets West Broadway into its largest iteration to date, activating more blocks, hiring hundreds of local artists and performers, and increasing vendor participation and public attendance; this event has become a flagship annual activation for the corridor.

Business support programs and West Broadway Rising

WBC developed and scaled business technical-assistance and grant programs (including Black Business Week and West Broadway Rising), helped dozens of entrepreneurs access capital and facade improvements, and announced new workforce and redevelopment initiatives (including a youth jobs program and a plan to redevelop a long-vacant building) in 2026.
