About Conservation Minnesota

Conservation Minnesota is a statewide, donor-facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Minneapolis that works on water, land, waste & toxics, and climate & energy policy and public engagement across Minnesota. Conservation Minnesota was a leading voice in the long-running campaign to protect the Boundary Waters watershed; the organization celebrated Governor Tim Walz’s executive order (Aug. 18, 2026) directing state agencies to halt permitting and environmental review for nonferrous mineral mining in the Rainy River Headwaters Watershed and to pursue legislation for permanent protections.

Conservation Crew expansion (2026)

Through Conservation Crew, the organization reached over 900 middle-school students in 54 schools in 2026, supporting student-led conservation projects (pocket prairies, conservation stations, solar suitcases, and similar initiatives) that combine hands-on stewardship with civic learning.

State-level policy and funding wins (2026)

Members and advocates mobilized by Conservation Minnesota helped secure major 2026 legislative outcomes including record investments in drinking water and wastewater infrastructure (bonding funding), nearly $200 million in Outdoor Heritage Fund allocations protecting over 68,000 acres, and approval of over $100 million from Lottery proceeds via the LCCMR process for research, education, and outdoor recreation projects; the group also helped defend the 100% Clean Energy by 2040 standard.
