Youth on Record empowers young creatives to achieve their artistic, personal, and academic best by employing Colorado musicians and artists as their coaches and mentors.
About Youth on Record
Youth on Record (YOR) is a Denver-based nonprofit arts-education organization that delivers in-school for-credit classes, free after-school music and media workshops, paid internships, and fellowship programs delivered by professional local musicians and media artists.
YOR operates a 4,000 sq. ft. Youth Media Studio and a youth-centered campus in the La Alma/Lincoln Park area; through that hub and school partnerships the organization focuses on academic engagement, social-emotional learning, career pathways in the creative industries, and community performance opportunities.
In the most recent program year YOR reported serving over 1,700 students through a mix of classroom teaching, drop-in studio access, summer camps, paid fellowships, and performance showcases. Recent organizational milestones include co-ownership of the Underground Music Showcase (UMS) in 2022 and collaboration with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts through the Arts Across America series.
Notable achievements
Youth Media Studio anchor tenant
Opened a 4,000 sq. ft. Youth Media Studio as the anchor tenant in the Denver Housing Authority’s La Mariposa revitalization project; the space provides a community recording studio, classrooms, and production resources.
UMS co-ownership
Became a co-owner of the Underground Music Showcase (UMS) in 2022, expanding YOR’s role in the local music ecosystem and creating additional performance and industry access for youth.
National collaboration & showcases
Partnered with national partners (including programming through the John F. Kennedy Center’s Arts Across America series) and produced public showcases that amplify youth work and create prominent performance opportunities.
