About International Society for Behavioural Ecology (ISBE)

Established in 1986, the International Society for Behavioural Ecology (ISBE) is a learned scientific society that promotes the study of animal behaviour in an evolutionary and ecological context. The society is member‑run, maintains an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policy, and operates as a U.S. tax‑exempt nonprofit to support research, communication and training in behavioural ecology. ISBE’s core activities are the publication of its flagship journal, Behavioral Ecology, and the organization of a biennial international congress that brings together researchers worldwide. In the last several years the society has run large international meetings (including the 18th and 19th Congresses) that drew attendees and presenters from dozens of countries, and it has continued targeted support for students and early‑career scientists through travel awards and dedicated workshops. ISBE maintains an active newsletter and online presence, posts regular news and positions in the field, and announced its 20th Congress (Turin, Italy) for 2026 while continuing contests, awards, and travel‑support programs that increase participation and accessibility for developing‑nation and student researchers.
