About Healthy Tarrant County Collaboration

Healthy Tarrant County Collaboration (HTCC) is a coalition of hospitals, public health organizations, universities, and community partners founded in 1997 to conduct countywide health needs assessment and coordinate community health improvement work across Tarrant County, Texas. HTCC emphasizes policy, systems, and environmental approaches to address chronic disease, food access, and health equity, operating through workgroups, community initiatives, and partner-led programs. In recent years HTCC has actively supported urban farming and healthy food access initiatives (including Grow Southeast and Gardens on the Go) and published practical resources such as an urban farming manual to help scale community food systems work across East Fort Worth and other underserved neighborhoods.

Notable achievements

Countywide community health assessment and sustained coalition

Led the development and implementation of Tarrant County community health assessments and sustained a multi-sector collaboration since 1997 to align hospitals, public health, and academic partners around prioritized community health strategies.

Grow Southeast Urban Farms partnership

Co-created and supported the Grow Southeast initiative (launched publicly in 2024) to develop community-owned urban farms and improve fresh food access in east Fort Worth neighborhoods identified as food deserts.

Published Urban Farming Manual

Produced and published a practical urban farming manual (released January 2025) to document best practices and operational guidance for community-operated urban farms and food-access projects across Tarrant County.
