About VAIL VALLEY MOUNTAIN TRAILS ALLIANCE
VVMTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Eagle County, Colorado focused on building, maintaining, and advocating for sustainable, non-motorized soft-surface trails that connect communities and support public-land stewardship.
The organization runs paid seasonal crews, volunteer trail crews, inclusive outdoor programs, and partnership initiatives with land managers to address trail maintenance backlogs, seasonal wildlife protections, and equitable access; in 2024–2025 VVMTA expanded youth and stewardship programming and secured new grant funding to scale operations.
Notable achievements
Trail Conservation Crew impact (2024)
In 2024 the Trail Conservation Crew logged over 7,500 hours of trail work, cleared hazardous materials and trees, naturalized unsustainable social trails, and delivered multiple miles of trail construction and maintenance.
Soul Dirt participation (2024)
The Soul Dirt inclusive programming reached approximately 450 participants across about 40 events in 2024, expanding access to guided outdoor experiences for diverse community members.
GOCO grant award
In partnership with Eagle County Open Space, VVMTA was awarded a major Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant (announced July 2, 2025) to expand stewardship capacity through Trail Conservation and a new Stewardship Crew.
