About Children's Healing Center

Children's Healing Center operates year-round recreation centers that provide social, emotional and recreational programming in a super-clean, infection-controlled environment for children and young adults with weakened immune systems and their families. The Center’s model focuses on reducing isolation and improving family well-being through play-therapy, fitness, arts, caregiver respite and research-based psychosocial programming. Since opening its first physical location in 2015 the organization has grown significantly: it purchased a new West Michigan facility in 2023, opened a second (Southeast Michigan) center in 2024, and partners with medical providers and payers to expand services and study health outcomes for medically complex children.

Notable achievements

Second site opened (Southeast Michigan, 2024)

Launched an 11,000-square-foot Southeast Michigan center in 2024 to expand access to recreation and therapeutic programming for children and young adults with weakened immune systems.

New West Michigan facility and capital campaign

Purchased the Youngsma building in Grand Rapids (announced 2023) and launched an $8.5M capital campaign (“A Million Minutes More”) to renovate and expand programming space, clinical-grade HVAC and intake capabilities to serve more families.

Rapid membership growth and measured family impact

Member base reportedly quadrupled over a recent three-year period; internal outcome measures show large improvements in family-reported stress reduction, quality of life and reduced loneliness among qualifying members.
