San Marco Chamber Music Society
To present high-quality chamber music performances and educational programming by professional musicians for the Northeast Florida community, while supporting charitable causes (notably Type 1 diabetes research).
About San Marco Chamber Music Society
The San Marco Chamber Music Society (SMCMS) is a volunteer-run, donor-facing 501(c)(3) arts organization founded in 2008 by Eric and Ellen Olson, long-standing members of the Jacksonville Symphony. The Society presents multiple chamber music programs each season — most concerts are free and open to the public — and draws its performers from professional orchestra members and university faculty in the region. SMCMS programs combine public concerts, community outreach and benefit performances; the organization regularly performs across Northeast Florida (including St. Augustine and Jacksonville-area venues) and has undertaken international concert tours. The Society maintains an active performance calendar and a web presence for event listings and donations.
Notable achievements
International Concert Tours
SMCMS has organized and presented international tours in recent years, including performances in England (2016, 2023), Germany (2019) and a tour of Italy in 2025, expanding the ensemble's regional and international profile.
Sustained Benefit Fundraising
Each season includes benefit concerts for Type 1 diabetes research (JDRF), and the Society has raised more than $50,000 for diabetes research over time through its benefit performances.
Recording & Artistic Collaborations
Members of SMCMS have collaborated with groups such as the Lawson Ensemble and participated in commercial recordings (including projects released on Albany Records), demonstrating a record of professional artistic output beyond live concerts.
