About Friends of Douglas County K-9

Friends of Douglas County K-9 (K-9 Friends) is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) public charity formed in 2011 that raises funds exclusively to support the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.

The organization funds purchase and training of K-9 officers, specialized equipment and supplies, and maintains a K-9 Officer Preservation (KOP) Fund to cover medical care for retired K-9s so handlers do not bear those costs.

K-9 Friends conducts community outreach and annual fundraising events (its signature event is the Howling Good Time Gala) to engage donors and local partners in supporting public safety through K-9 programs.
