About CITIZENS OF THE WORLD CHARTER SCHOOLS

Citizens of the World Charter Schools — Los Angeles (CWC LA) is a regional network of public, tuition-free charter schools serving a diverse student body across multiple campuses in Los Angeles. The network is governed by a local nonprofit board and is part of the broader national Citizens of the World Charter Schools network. CWC LA operates neighborhood elementary and middle schools organized around an academically rigorous, project-based curriculum with integrated social-emotional learning, multicultural studies, arts and a social-justice focus for older grades. The organization emphasizes diversity-by-design, family engagement, and measurable investment in classroom programs. In recent years CWC LA has focused on campus improvements and curriculum development: it completed a campus expansion at its Mar Vista school for TK–8 families (2024) and has pursued a regional STEAM middle-school curriculum initiative and other program improvements to deepen STEM, robotics and digital media pathways across its middle schools.

Notable achievements

Network growth and campus expansion

The Los Angeles region expanded physical capacity and consolidated grade spans at CWC Mar Vista with a completed campus expansion (fall 2024), enabling a full TK–8 program on a single site and increasing continuity for families.

Regional STEAM curriculum initiative

Led a region-wide STEAM and middle-school science curriculum effort (planned/announced 2024) to introduce robotics, ICT/digital media pathways and strengthened STEM facilities and after-school programming across CWC LA middle schools.

Sustained student reach

The CWC Los Angeles network serves a multi-campus student body across the region (reporting in community profiles places the network’s scale at roughly mid‑thousands of students), maintaining enrollment and program delivery while expanding facilities and grade offerings.
