About MNI SOTA FUND

Mni Sota Fund is a Native-led, urban Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) based in Minneapolis that provides culturally grounded financial services, low-interest loans, homebuyer education, and business support to Indigenous people across Minnesota. Established in 2011 (originally Bii Gii Wiin Community Development Loan Fund), the organization operates programs including financial wellness coaching, a First Time Homebuyer program, a Business Lab, and Mni Sota Mortgage Co. to advance Indigenous economic self-determination. In recent years Mni Sota Fund has expanded statewide activity and capacity through major philanthropic investments and program partnerships, scaling culturally rooted lending, coaching, and entrepreneurship supports (including serving 400+ clients in financial wellness programming during a recent program year).

Notable achievements

Bush Foundation $7M Community Innovation Grant (2025)

Awarded a $7 million Community Innovation grant to support statewide expansion of lending, culturally grounded financial wellness, homeownership support, and small business development.

MacKenzie Scott Donation ($1.5M, 2024)

Received a $1.5 million unrestricted gift that materially increased capacity to expand programs, lending, and statewide outreach for Indigenous wealth-building.

Financing for Indigenous Wealth Building Center

Secured municipal support and a Great Streets loan to advance renovation/construction of an Indigenous Wealth Building Center to house offices, classrooms, coworking, and an art business incubator in Minneapolis.
