About GRYD FOUNDATION

The GRYD Foundation (Gang Reduction and Youth Development Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a core implementation partner of the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development (GRYD). Its programming focuses on place-based prevention and intervention in GRYD Zones across Los Angeles, providing free recreation, arts, sports, health and workforce development opportunities to youth and families. GRYD operates signature initiatives including Summer Night Lights (SNL) and Fall Friday Nights, which keep parks and recreation centers open late with structured activities, meals, and resource connections. The Foundation coordinates public‑private funding, hires local youth and seasonal staff to run sites, and works with city departments and community organizations to reduce violence and increase community resilience. Expanded Summer Night Lights reach (2024)

In 2024 GRYD-backed Summer Night Lights operated at more than 40 sites across Los Angeles, serving more than 80,000 attendees and hiring hundreds of people to staff programming and services during the summer season.

Documented violence‑reduction contribution (2023)

GRYD programming (including SNL and place‑based services) was cited by city leadership as contributing to a notable reduction in gang‑related homicides in 2023, reflecting the Foundation’s role within the Mayor’s broader GRYD comprehensive strategy.
