About USVETS - TEXAS

USVETS - TEXAS is a subordinate affiliate of the national U.S.VETS (United States Veterans Initiative) network that delivers veteran-focused housing, outreach, and supportive services in the Houston/Texas region while maintaining a legal/administrative presence in Los Angeles. The organization focuses on community outreach, case management, mental-health and suicide-prevention services, and coordination of VA and federal benefits for at-risk and unhoused veterans. In the last 2–3 years USVETS - TEXAS has been an active grantee and service partner in federally funded suicide-prevention and outreach initiatives, and has restructured program delivery in coordination with the parent U.S.VETS organization (notably transitioning some SSVF-supported activities to the related entity while securing new grant funding for suicide-prevention and community outreach). The organization continues to file annual Form 990 returns and operate as a donor-facing nonprofit within the USVETS network.

Notable achievements

VA Suicide-Prevention Grant Award (FY2024)

Awarded a federal VA SSG-Fox suicide-prevention grant to deliver community outreach, mental-health screenings, peer support, and case management across multiple Texas counties, expanding local suicide-prevention capacity for veterans.

Secured New Community Behavioral-Health Funding (2023–2024)

Obtained new grant funding to launch community-based suicide-prevention and outreach services focused on connecting at-risk veterans to mental-health care and benefits navigation in the Houston region.

Operational Continuity within USVETS Network

Maintained annual IRS filings and program continuity while coordinating program transitions (including supportive-services/SSVF operations) with the parent United States Veterans Initiative to align service delivery and funding across the network.
