About HAWAII EMPLOYEES LIFELINE PROGRAM
Hawaii Employees Lifeline Program (HELP) is a Hawaii-based 501(c)(3) charitable program operating under the Labor Community Services Program of the Hawaii State AFL-CIO. HELP provides direct emergency and safety-net services to working people and their families in Hawaii, including food pantry distributions, disaster-relief assistance, and short-term financial support.
In recent years HELP has partnered with affiliated unions, community groups, and statewide partners to run food distribution events, provide emergency gift-card and rent-relief support after disasters, and coordinate volunteer-driven community service projects such as the annual Labor of Love. The organization files annual Form 990 returns and reported materially increased revenue and program activity in the 2021–2023 period, reflecting expanded relief work and donor support.
Notable achievements
Wildfire relief fundraising (August–October 2023)
Help coordinated a union-led relief fund and distributed disaster assistance to affected union families following the Hawaiian wildfires, accepting and directing donations to provide immediate emergency support to displaced workers and their households.
Expanded food-distribution and pantry operations (2023–2024)
Through partnerships with the Hawaii State AFL-CIO and affiliated unions, HELP operated targeted food-distribution events and an affiliate food pantry that served union members and workers in need, including organized distributions for hotel and service-industry workers during 2024.
Sustained fiscal growth and transparency (2021–2023)
The program has maintained regular annual Form 990 filings and reported year-over-year revenue and net-asset growth through fiscal 2023, enabling continued direct-service grants and program activity for union households.
