About COMFORT AND JOY

Comfort & Joy is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that programs queer-centered arts, performance and community events in the Bay Area and on the Burning Man playa. The organization produces recurring city events, performance showcases, and a registered Comfort & Joy camp/village at Burning Man that foreground queer artistic expression and mutual aid. In recent years (2022–2024) Comfort & Joy has maintained active programming, supported artists and community members, and reported program-driven revenues consistent with ongoing event production.

Notable achievements

Sustained arts and performance programming

Delivered a steady schedule of city events, performance showcases and festival programming (including recurring Afterglow/NYE and themed events) that anchor queer community participation in San Francisco and on the playa.

Comfort & Joy village at Burning Man

Established and operated a queer-focused camp and public installations at Burning Man that center art, education, sex-positive practice and cultural exchange, and that include fundraising and direct support for the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

Community relief and mutual aid (Amber’s Pantry)

Launched Amber’s Pantry during the COVID-19 period to provide emergency food and sundries to displaced community members and continued mutual-aid distributions and support at local actions and marches.
