SEED EFFECT

Seed Effect is a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates a Christ-centered, savings-led microfinance and economic empowerment program for refugees and other marginalized communities in northern Uganda and (historically) South Sudan. The organization partners with local leaders and churches and implements a three-cycle model (savings & loan groups, entrepreneurship/livelihood training, and independence) to build sustainable community-led financial systems. The core program places groups into locally run Savings & Loan groups that meet weekly to save, lend, study Scripture, and receive business and agricultural training (including the Chalmers Center Plan for a Better Business curriculum and farmer training pilots). Seed Effect transitioned operations to northern Uganda beginning in 2017 and has scaled its model across multiple refugee settlements and neighboring host communities. In recent years Seed Effect has published audited financials and impact reports, completed independent third‑party evaluations, and continued program expansion and curriculum evaluation (including a January 2026 evaluation of Plan for a Better Business). The organization receives institutional support from several faith-based funders and maintains public annual reports and Form 990 filings.
