About TEXPROTECTS-THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN

TexProtects is a Dallas-based, state-level nonprofit and the Texas chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America that focuses on preventing child abuse and neglect through research, policy advocacy, and capacity-building for community prevention programs. The organization advances public policy, convenes cross-sector coalitions (including the Prenatal-to-Three Collaborative and the Child Protection Roundtable), and creates data tools and research (such as the Child Wellbeing Dashboard and annual State of the State report) to inform lawmakers and local partners. In the last 2–3 years TexProtects has led statewide advocacy and partnership efforts that produced tangible policy and funding wins for home visiting, kinship care supports, and expanded mental-health early-intervention services for children.

Notable achievements

Historic state funding increase for prevention

Led advocacy that contributed to a $65 million increase in state funding for home visiting and other evidence-based child abuse prevention programs, estimated to benefit approximately 20,000 families.

Kinship care support funding

Secured increased funding and supports for kinship placements, including a $6.9 million allocation and expanded access to reimbursement dollars for kinship caregivers.

New research and data tools

Published the Child Wellbeing Dashboard and the annual State of the State report to provide policymakers and stakeholders with 27 indicators and analyses to track child wellbeing and inform prevention strategy.
