SILICON VALLEY BICYCLE EXCHANGE

Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange (SVBE, also known as BikeX) is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) community bike shop and nonprofit that has repaired, sold, and donated used bicycles since 1993. The organization operates regular volunteer workdays, skills‑sharing events, and a retail outlet for refurbished bikes and parts to fund its programs and sustain operations. In recent years SVBE has professionalized some services (including a paid Full‑Service Repair program covering mechanical eBike work), expanded volunteer training, and increased its annual output: the organization reports surpassing its 2024 goal to repair and donate hundreds of bikes and states a cumulative total of more than 11,000 bicycles refurbished and distributed since its founding. SVBE works with local shelters, schools, and social-service partners to place bikes with people who need transportation, and it continues to run frequent community events, swap meets, and volunteer-learning opportunities.
