About Backing the Blue Line Inc

Backing the Blue Line (BtBL) is a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded to support law enforcement officers, their spouses/partners and families across the state. The organization is volunteer-led and member-driven, providing emotional, practical, and financial support through programs such as Family Support, Fallen Officer Memorial Roses, social events, and therapy resource referrals. BtBL operates statewide in Minnesota through committees (Family Support, Fallen Officer Memorial Roses, Community Engagement, among others) and runs donor-facing fundraising activities including the annual Blue Line Ball. Membership and many volunteer activities are organized for spouses/partners of POST-certified Minnesota law enforcement officers, while many services (e.g., family support requests) are extended more broadly to law enforcement families in need. In recent years the group has maintained an active public presence—running statewide volunteer efforts, media-visible memorial support, and recurring fundraising events—to deliver tangible support to officers’ families and to mobilize community donors and sponsors in Minnesota.

Notable achievements

Family support reach (2023)

In 2023 Backing the Blue Line provided direct support to hundreds of Minnesota law enforcement families (reported support to 264 families), delivering financial assistance, gift support, resources and hands-on assistance during times of illness or work-related incidents.

Large-scale memorial support (Feb 2024)

Coordinated and prepared 4,000 painted memorial roses for a statewide memorial service in February 2024, the largest preparation effort the group had undertaken to date and a public demonstration of rapid volunteer mobilization and inter-agency cooperation.

Sustained annual fundraiser

Established and grew the Blue Line Ball into the organization’s principal fundraising event; the organization marked its tenth annual Blue Line Ball in 2026, using the event to secure sponsorships and donor funding for program operations and family support.
