About TEXAS FIRE FIGHTERS HOME

The Texas Fire Fighters Home (TFFH) is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (founded as a project of the Rotary Club of University Area Houston) that provides temporary, fully furnished lodging near the Texas Medical Center for firefighters, first responders, and immediate family members who are receiving medical treatment. TFFH operates by leasing apartments close to the TMC (currently leasing units at the Maroneal Apartments) and offers stays generally ranging from a minimum of three days up to three months; policies and resident agreements were updated in 2024 to reflect current operations. The organization is volunteer-led and donor-funded, works in partnership with local Rotary clubs, fire organizations and first-responder networks, and has expanded its housing capacity in recent years to meet growing demand from affected firefighters and families.

Notable achievements

Founded and established (2013)

Originally launched as a project of the Rotary Club of University Area Houston, TFFH achieved tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status and built a formal program to place firefighters and first responders in low- or no-cost temporary housing while receiving care at the Texas Medical Center.

Program expansion — multiple apartments opened

Since founding the program, TFFH steadily increased its housing capacity and announced the opening of its 7th apartment in early 2026 to expand access for patients and caregivers traveling for treatment.

Sustained donor-funded operations (recent fiscal growth)

In recent annual filings the charity reported materially increased contributions and net assets that supported continued leasing and program delivery, enabling the organization to serve more first responders without establishing paid staff infrastructure.
