Mission

Our mission is to support public access to the Kalamazoo River and local stewardship activities while providing ongoing care and maintenance of five river access sites located in Calhoun County, Michigan. Providing and enhancing public access to the river nurtures an appreciation for the delicate balance that exists in the river environment and encourages stewardship leading to its care and conservation.

About KALAMAZOO RIVER COMMUNITY RECREATIONAL FOUNDATION

The Kalamazoo River Community Recreational Foundation (KRCRF) is a private, donor-funded foundation created to provide and maintain public access to the Kalamazoo River through ownership, support, and upkeep of five river access sites in Calhoun County, Michigan. The foundation funds site improvements, maintenance, and amenities that enable safe recreational use of the river for residents and visitors. Founded in 2013 by Enbridge and administered through a professional manager, KRCRF oversees an endowment established to ensure long-term stewardship of the sites. The foundation files annual Form 990-PF returns, maintains a multi‑million dollar endowment, and has completed multi-year site improvements and new facilities in recent years to improve river access and visitor experience.

Notable achievements

Ceresco Green Restroom Completed (June 2024)

KRCRF completed construction of a single-stall public restroom at Ceresco Green in June 2024, improving comfort and usability for paddlers and visitors; construction was funded in part through an external donation grant and includes provisions for seasonal operation and ongoing care.

Established Long‑Term Endowment (2013)

The foundation was capitalized at inception with a dedicated endowment (initial capitalization reported at approximately $2.5 million) to provide perpetual funding for long-term maintenance and stewardship of the five access sites along the Kalamazoo River.
