About THE SEA OTTER FOUNDATION & TRUST
The Sea Otter Foundation & Trust is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 46-4183357) founded in late 2013 to raise and distribute funds specifically for sea otter research, conservation and education. The organization received tax-exempt status in 2014 and issued its first grants within a year of that designation.
SOFT operates as a small, volunteer-run grantmaker and public education organization that has raised several hundred thousand dollars to date and provided targeted support—equipment purchases, student research grants and institutional project funding—to programs working directly with Enhydra lutris.
In the last 2–3 years the foundation has continued an annual grant cycle and supported multi-year and equipment-focused projects (including ROV/drone purchases and veterinary research), university graduate research, and zoo/rehabilitation facility capacity needs.
