About NORTH TEXAS HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

North Texas Healthy Communities (NTHC) is a nonprofit community-outreach organization operating as the North Texas outreach arm of Texas Health Resources. NTHC implements large-scale well‑being initiatives — including the Blue Zones Project Fort Worth and food‑access programs — to change environments, policies, and social supports so healthy choices are easier for residents. NTHC focuses its work in high-need ZIP codes and partners with schools, faith communities, worksites, community centers and local governments to deliver measurable community benefit. In recent years NTHC’s work has included healthy food distribution and access programs, mental health first aid training, and policy and built‑environment interventions aimed at improving population well‑being.

Notable achievements

Sustained Blue Zones Project implementation

Led implementation and ongoing operations of the Blue Zones Project in Fort Worth and surrounding North Texas communities, transitioning the initiative under NTHC in 2019 and sustaining multi-sector partnerships for neighborhood, school, worksite and faith‑community interventions.

Major healthy‑food distribution impact

Since 2020 NTHC has supported large-scale healthy food access efforts; by mid‑2023 the organization reported donating more than 1.1 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables through programs that include produce distribution, school pantries, and Fresh Access sites.

Broad community reach and organizational engagement

Through Blue Zones and related initiatives NTHC has engaged hundreds of community partners and tens of thousands of residents (program reporting has cited engagements with 300+ organizations and outreach to more than 90,000 individuals across program activities).
