About HOUSTON PETS ALIVE

Houston Pets Alive! (HPA!) is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization founded in 2014 that operates adoption, foster, and lifesaving shelter-support programs for at-risk dogs and cats in the greater Houston region. HPA! runs a centrally located adoption and operations facility and a veterinary services program that includes low-cost spay/neuter, vaccine and microchip clinics, a pet food pantry and a donation-based community store to help keep pets with their families. In the last 2–3 years HPA! has expanded strategic partnerships with municipal and smaller rural shelters, run high-profile adoption events, and launched the Shelters Save! program to bring animals from low-traffic partner shelters to high-visibility adoption events, increasing adoptions regionally.

Notable achievements

Shelters Save! adoption program

Launched in 2024 to support low-foot-traffic partner shelters, the program has brought dozens of partner shelters into HPA!-run adoption events and facilitated hundreds of adoptions since launch, increasing visibility and lifesaving for animals from partner facilities.

Partnerships with local shelters and BARC

HPA! worked with municipal partners including BARC and multiple area shelters (2024–2026) to run coordinated adoption events, transfer intakes, and short-term foster/medical support to increase live outcomes for at-risk animals.

Expanded community veterinary and support services

HPA! developed and sustained community-facing services — a pet food pantry, donation-based community store, weekly low-cost vaccine & microchip clinics, and a spay/neuter/medical clinic — to reduce owner surrenders and improve animal welfare in the Houston area.
