About African Career Education & Resources

African Career Education & Resources (ACER) is a community-rooted 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2008 and based in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis. The organization runs programs in economic and small-business development, workforce training and healthcare scholarships, housing justice, health equity, and voter and civic engagement to reduce disparities faced by African immigrant and other BIPOC communities.

ACER operates a Business Opportunity Hub and delivers technical assistance, training, and advocacy for entrepreneurs and tenants across Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and nearby communities. In recent years ACER has expanded workforce supports (including healthcare training scholarships), led tenant and housing advocacy, and partnered with state and local agencies on culturally informed programs and grants.

Workforce development grant award

Secured a significant state workforce development grant to expand healthcare and career training supports for community members and to fund scholarships and job placement services.

Minnesota Board on Aging dementia project

Awarded funding to develop culturally informed dementia awareness, education, and respite supports tailored to African immigrant families and caregivers.

Business & small‑business impact

Through its Business Opportunity Hub ACER reports supporting 300+ small businesses and entrepreneurs and leveraging over $1 million in resources for community impact, while reaching 1,500+ community members and training 75+ community leaders.
