About New Century School

New Century School (NCS) is a Preschool–12 public STEM charter school based in the Midway area of Saint Paul, Minnesota. The school uses an inquiry-based, multidisciplinary STEM curriculum with computational thinking, engineering and robotics, small class sizes and native-language support to serve multilingual students. In recent years NCS has expanded its operations (opening a Compass Academy campus in Bloomington), substantially grown enrollment, and continued oversight and performance monitoring through its authorizer. The school emphasizes data-driven teacher development and college-and-career readiness alongside extended-day and blended-learning programs.

Notable achievements

Opened Compass Academy campus

Expanded operations with a sister campus (Compass Academy) in Bloomington that began serving students in 2023–24 and enrolled approximately 249 students in its inaugural year, extending NCS’s preschool–elementary STEM model to a second site.

Significant enrollment growth

Enrollment at the New Century School campus grew from about 507 students (2022–23) to more than 660 students in subsequent years, reflecting rapid organizational growth and increased demand for its STEM-focused program.

Maintained key authorizer standards

Received favorable authorizer oversight findings in recent annual scorecards for meeting enrollment, professional development, and several academic and operational standards under its authorizer’s performance framework.
