About AFRICAN AMERICAN LEADERSHIP FORUM

The African American Leadership Forum (The Forum / AALF) is a Minneapolis-based, donor-facing 501(c)(3) organization that organizes Black leaders, institutions, and allies across Minnesota to design and advance policy and programmatic solutions that address systemic racial inequities. The Forum operates as a think-and-do tank focused on a multi-domain Black Agenda for Change—policy and practice priorities in education, health, economic prosperity, generational wealth, public safety, and environmental justice. In recent years The Forum has expanded its fellowships and policy work (including the Josie R. Johnson Leadership Academy and the Policy Entrepreneur Fellowship), launched and iterated a statewide Black Agenda for Change with annual policy priorities (notably its 2026 platform), and secured institutional philanthropic support and government grant funding to scale organizing, research, and community-driven policy advocacy. Financial filings show active operations with multi-million-dollar revenues and assets in the mid-2020s, reflecting growth in programming and standing among Minnesota funders and partners.

Notable achievements

Black Agenda for Change

Developed and operationalized a statewide, community-rooted policy platform that translates community conversations into legislative and administrative priorities across health, education, economic prosperity, environmental justice, and public safety (including a published set of 2026 policy priorities).

Leadership Fellowships
