About AMERICAN FOREGUT SOCIETY
The American Foregut Society (AFS) is a multidisciplinary professional society that brings together gastroenterologists and foregut surgeons to advance diagnosis, treatment, research, and education for foregut diseases (e.g., GERD, achalasia, Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal and gastric disorders).
AFS supports clinical collaboration, runs an annual scientific meeting, maintains research initiatives and registries, publishes a specialty journal and textbook, and operates fellowship and trainee programs to raise standards of care and training in the field.

Multidisciplinary Society Growth
Grew into a large interdisciplinary membership organization that codifies collaborative standards between GI physicians and surgeons and supports fellowship recognition programs.
Launch & Ongoing Publication of AFS Journal
Established and regularly publishes the AFS journal (Foregut) to disseminate original research, reviews, and clinical guidance within the foregut specialty.
Development of Research Infrastructure
