About CubaCaribe (CUBACARIBE)

CubaCaribe is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) arts organization dedicated to presenting and sustaining Caribbean and Afro-Caribbean dance, music, and related cultural practices. Its work centers on an annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance & Music and a resident dance company that produces new choreography and community-facing performances.

In addition to producing festival programming and premieres, CubaCaribe runs education and community initiatives (including youth movement classes and workshops) and partners with local arts funders and civic programs to support artists of the Caribbean diaspora. In recent years the organization has continued to produce annual festival seasons, commission new works, and maintain public-facing programs that reach local audiences and practicing artists.

Notable achievements

Sustained Annual Festival

Operates the CubaCaribe Festival of Dance & Music, a long-running annual festival in the Bay Area that programs folkloric, contemporary, and popular Caribbean dance and music and has presented world-premiere works by its resident artistic leadership.

Artist Development & Resident Company

Maintains a resident dance company that advances Afro-Cuban modern and folkloric traditions through new choreography and touring/appearance opportunities, supporting hundreds of artists through commissioning, performance, and teaching activities.

Community Education Impact

Delivers ongoing community and youth programs (for example the Moving Juntos classes) that have served local youth and community participants and embed cultural knowledge alongside dance training.
