LAWAKUA CHARITABLE FUND
To guide disadvantaged and at‑risk youth on Oʻahu toward a more hopeful future by using Kajukenbo martial arts to teach discipline, confidence, teamwork, and by providing educational assistance where needed.
About LAWAKUA CHARITABLE FUND
Lawakua Charitable Fund is a Honolulu‑based 501(c)(3) that runs the Lawakua Kajukenbo Club, a long‑standing youth development program that recruits children from public housing and other low‑income communities to learn Kajukenbo martial arts and life skills. The program pairs martial‑arts instruction with educational support (including tuition assistance partnerships) to improve confidence, discipline, teamwork, and school readiness for at‑risk keiki.
The organization is an active, donor‑facing charity with public tax filings and a sustained operating presence. In recent years Lawakua resumed and expanded in‑person classes (resume noted in 2022), hosted community tournaments (notably mid‑2023), received local civic recognition (including a visit by Honolulu’s mayor in August 2023), and shows stable financial resources in its most recent annual filings, enabling continued program delivery and tuition support for participants.
