About Education Evolving

Education Evolving works with educators, students, families, and policymakers to advance equitable, student-centered learning through thought leadership, policy advocacy, and direct educator support. The organization promotes distributed leadership models (teacher-powered schools), encourages new educator roles and licensure pathways, and convenes practitioners and community members to share practices that center student voice and equity. In recent years (notably across 2023–2025), Education Evolving produced policy research and recommendations (including work on the Minnesota Student Survey and state assessment policy), supported implementation of a heritage-language teacher licensure pathway, and operated a national Teacher-Powered Schools program alongside its regional Student-Centered Learning for Equity convening. The organization combines school-level partnerships and statewide policy work to demonstrate and scale student-centered practices. Education Evolving positions itself as both a practitioner support organization — working directly with school teams to redesign leadership and learning — and a policy influencer that seeks to clear barriers and create enabling conditions for student-centered K–12 innovation.

Notable achievements

Launched heritage-language licensure pathway support

Supported creation and early implementation of a Minnesota heritage-language teacher licensure pathway and welcomed the initial cohort of candidates in 2024 (roughly 50 candidates reported using the pathway).

Student-Centered Learning for Equity convening (SCL4E)

Hosted the region’s large annual convening (SCL4E 2024), a hybrid event with hundreds of students, educators, and community members (600+ attendees reported in 2024) featuring student-led sessions and practitioner workshops to spread student-centered practices.

Evidence on teacher-powered school outcomes

Published research and studies documenting positive outcomes for teacher-powered schools, including a study showing substantially lower teacher leaving rates compared with national averages, which helped raise national attention for collaborative leadership models.
