About TEXAS HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT ALLIANCE INC
Texas Health and Environment Alliance (THEA), founded in 2015 and based in Houston, TX, is a community-rooted nonprofit that helps residents impacted by historic toxic contamination learn the science of exposure and advocate for remediation. THEA builds and sustains local coalitions, conducts community health outreach and surveys, and partners with public health agencies and academic institutions to document and address environmental health threats. In its neighborhood-by-neighborhood work THEA reports having mobilized tens of thousands of residents and influenced more than $122 million in EPA-ordered cleanup projects. In the last 2–3 years THEA expanded its regional work, receiving a major environmental justice grant (EJ4Climate) in May 2024 to study and prepare coastal communities for climate-driven risks from relic industrial waste sites, while continuing coalition work on sites such as the San Jacinto River Waste Pits and the Jones Road groundwater plume.
