SAN FRANCISCO TRANSIT RIDERS
Putting riders first: empowering everyday transit riders to advocate for a fast, reliable, affordable, and equitable public transit system in San Francisco.
About SAN FRANCISCO TRANSIT RIDERS
San Francisco Transit Riders (SFTR) is a rider-based, donor-facing 501(c)(3) nonprofit that organizes and mobilizes transit users to shape public transit policy in San Francisco. The organization focuses on rider-first campaigns, community engagement, and collaboration with city agencies and allied organizations to secure funding, service improvements, and safer streets. SFTR is an active, operating advocacy organization with a visible web presence, membership program, and recurring public events. In recent years (2023–2026) SFTR has led and participated in campaigns that influenced state transit funding outcomes, advanced street-level projects such as the Geary Boulevard improvements, and convened the Transit Justice Coalition to center equity in transit planning. SFTR raises revenue through membership, grants, and donations and uses those resources to run campaigns, build membership, and support rider engagement that aims to restore and improve Muni service and shape long-term, equitable transit investments across the city.
