About NATIVE GOVERNANCE CENTER

Native Governance Center (NGC) is a Native-led 501(c)(3) headquartered in Minneapolis that provides training, technical assistance, and public education to strengthen Tribal governance and Indigenous sovereignty across the region. NGC operates programs in leadership development (the Native Nation Rebuilders program), tribal governance support, tribal finance capacity-building, and community engagement. The organization works with Native nations that share geography with Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and has expanded services to include partners in neighboring states; it combines cohort-based leadership training, customized governance consulting, and public-facing educational resources to build Indigenous-led capacity and civic understanding.

Notable achievements

Native Nation Rebuilders scale

NGC’s Native Nation Rebuilders leadership program has graduated over 250 Indigenous changemakers across more than a dozen cohorts, creating an active alumni network that carries out community action plans to strengthen governance in their nations.

Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Mission Award

Recipient of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits Mission Award for Anti-Racism Initiative (accepted in 2023) in recognition of public education and anti-racism programming that centers authentic Indigenous narratives.

Tribal finance and capacity partnerships

Established a formal Tribal Finance capacity program in partnership with a national accounting firm and secured multi-year foundation support to expand financial management and governance assistance for Native nations.
