About AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
The Affordable Housing and Economic Development Foundation (AHED) is a Honolulu-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating, preserving and financing affordable and workforce housing across the Hawaiian Islands. AHED functions primarily as a funding and development partner, securing grants, loans and housing credits and working with developers, lenders, government agencies and service providers to deliver housing and related economic supports.
Since its formation AHED has been active on multi-island projects, including senior rental housing in Lihue (Kaua‘i) and serving as the nonprofit co-developer on larger Oʻahu mixed-use affordable projects. In recent years the organization has expanded its project pipeline and balance sheet, positioning itself to pursue Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and bond-financed projects while supporting workforce development and childcare initiatives that enable lower-income residents to access employment opportunities.
