About California Music Center

The California Music Center (CMC) is the presenter and steward of the Irving M. Klein International String Competition, a long-running international competition for young string players that provides cash prizes, performance opportunities, and career development. The organization produces annual competition rounds (semifinals and finals), commissions new works, and partners with regional presenters to present laureates in concerts. In the last 2–3 years CMC has continued in-person and partner-presented activities, with recent competition winners and laureates appearing with Bay Area and regional ensembles and in curated recitals. CMC also maintains an active programming calendar around the Klein Competition (including semifinals and finals hosted at partner venues) and has articulated a formal DEIA commitment as part of its organizational practices.
