About THE EVERGREEN NATURALISTS AUDUBON SOCIETY, INC.
Founded in 1968 (originally as the Evergreen Naturalists) and operating as a local Audubon chapter, Evergreen Audubon is a Colorado-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 51-0154193) focused on conservation, environmental education, and community science in the Bear Creek watershed and surrounding mountain communities.
Evergreen Audubon operates the Evergreen Nature Center and delivers year-round programming — including guided bird walks, citizen-science projects, school and scout programs, summer day camps, public lectures, and habitat projects — and has published a Strategic Plan for 2025–2029 to guide organizational growth and impact.

Longstanding community presence
Established in 1968 and operating continuously as a local Audubon chapter (affiliated since 1978), providing decades of conservation education in the mountain community.
Evergreen Nature Center relocation
Relocated the Nature Center in 2023 from the Evergreen Lake warming hut to the historic Bancroft House to expand visitor services and programming.
Recent citizen-science & outreach milestones
In 2023–2025 the organization expanded citizen-science efforts (including creating an eBird hotspot), increased volunteer nestbox-building events, and added animal ambassadors to the Nature Center to enhance public engagement.
