HAWAII PUBLIC RADIO

Hawai'i Public Radio (HPR) is a listener-supported, nonprofit public radio network based in Honolulu that operates two program streams (HPR-1: news & information; HPR-2: classical and arts) and a statewide transmitter network serving all Hawaiian islands. HPR produces local reporting, public affairs programs, cultural and music programming, podcasts, and digital newsletters to reach audiences on-air and online.

In the last three years HPR has maintained intensive local reporting on major statewide issues — including sustained coverage of the August 2023 Lahaina wildfires and the ongoing recovery — expanded its digital and video presence, and reported record membership and revenue growth following the 2025 federal funding rescission. The organization publishes an annual report and audited financial statements and continues to emphasize community-driven journalism and cultural programming.

HPR is governed by an independent board and operates as a donor-facing public charity with active membership drives, community events, podcasts, newsletters (Akamai Recap) and partnerships across the islands. The station explicitly prioritizes amplifying Native Hawaiian voices and statewide civic coverage while maintaining national public radio affiliations.
