About Alliance of International Aromatherapists
Founded in 2006, the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional organization that represents and supports aromatherapists worldwide. AIA focuses on education, research, practice standards, and public outreach to promote responsible, evidence-informed use of essential oils and aromatherapy.
In recent years AIA has expanded its research and education offerings, including launching the AIA Research Academy (supported by a multi-year grant) and operating its flagship 'Aromatics in Action®' conference with in-person and recorded/online access for broader reach.
AIA provides member services (professional directories, continuing education, mentoring) and runs programs to raise educational standards (School Recognition Program) and to build research capacity among practitioners and researchers.
Notable achievements
AIA Research Academy launch
Established a dedicated Research Academy (launched at the 2024 conference) to build research skills and provide open-access resources and mentoring for aromatherapy research.
Major international conference program
Delivered the 2024 'Aromatics in Action®' conference (Nashville) with in-person programming and online recorded access, emphasizing sustainability and professional integration.
School Recognition Program
Created and maintains a School Recognition Program (since 2009) to define and promote comprehensive educational standards for advanced practitioner aromatherapists.
