About FIRST BOOK

First Book is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit social enterprise (founded 1992) that increases equitable access to high-quality books and educational resources for children in low-income communities through a network of educators and program professionals.

First Book operates an educator-driven model that combines a discounted e-commerce Marketplace, donated book distributions, targeted partnerships, and research-to-practice resources (First Book Research & Insights and the First Book Accelerator). As of the 2022–2023 reporting period the organization reported serving millions of children annually and distributing hundreds of millions of books and resources.

Extensive educator network

First Book’s network comprises hundreds of thousands of registered educators and program leaders, enabling broad, direct reach into classrooms and programs that serve children living in poverty.

Programmatic innovations

Developed long-running initiatives such as the Stories for All Project (curated, diverse titles), the Accelerator (rapidly deployable educator resources), and multi-year corporate partnership campaigns to scale book access.
