About CALIFORNIA DRAGON BOAT ASSOCIATION

Founded in 1996, the California Dragon Boat Association (CDBA) is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes the growth and development of dragon boat racing across the San Francisco Bay Area. CDBA operates multiple practice sites, supports club and school teams, and runs year-round programming for youth and adults. CDBA runs the largest youth dragon boat program in North America and organizes several major annual events — including the San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival and the Northern California International Dragon Boat Festival — that attract competitive and community crews. The EIN 52-2153488 has been confirmed to belong to this San Francisco-based organization, which returned to on-water racing after the COVID hiatus (racing resumed in 2022) and continues to run youth championships, regional regattas, and multi-day festivals (with races scheduled into 2026).

Notable achievements

Organizer of major regional festivals

CDBA organizes multi-day events including the San Francisco Dragon Boat Festival and the Northern California International Dragon Boat Festival, providing competitive divisions for youth, collegiate, adult, and novice crews and drawing teams regionally and internationally.

Youth Leadership Council and youth grants

CDBA established a Youth Leadership Council that has helped develop student leaders and has been instrumental in securing more than six-figure support in grants and assets to benefit youth participants and race operations.
