About People With Disabilities Foundation

People With Disabilities Foundation (PWDF) is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charity based in San Francisco that provides legal advocacy, education, and grant support for people with psychiatric, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. PWDF delivers direct legal representation on Social Security (SSDI/SSI) cases, ADA and reasonable-accommodation issues, and related housing, employment, and healthcare matters, and runs a sustained public-education program of seminars, videos and trainings. In the last 2–3 years PWDF has maintained active litigation and advocacy work and expanded its grantmaking and public education: it announced a new grant cycle and awarded pilot grants to 13 programs in 2025 (see achievements), and published a press notice on a significant settlement with the Social Security Administration dated March 11, 2026. PWDF files annual Form 990 returns and reports regular fundraising and program activity in recent fiscal years, demonstrating ongoing operations and donor-facing activity.

Notable achievements

Unprecedented settlement with SSA

PWDF announced a major settlement with the Social Security Administration in a discrimination case under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, published as a press item on March 11, 2026, reflecting the organization's active litigation and impact on individual disability-rights claims.

2025 Pilot Grant Awards

In 2025 PWDF awarded grants to 13 programs serving people with psychiatric, intellectual, and/or developmental disabilities, distributing approximately $117,000 in pilot grant funding to a geographically diverse set of organizations to support community integration, arts, education, and peer programs.

Two decades of sustained legal advocacy and education

Founded in 2000, PWDF has provided long-term courtroom and administrative representation for claimants (SSA and federal courts), plus ongoing public seminars, training videos, and continuing-education programs for professionals—establishing a multi-decade record of direct service and public-awareness work.
