About THE AMERICAN NATIONAL RED CROSS
The American National Red Cross is a U.S.-based humanitarian nonprofit founded in 1881 that provides disaster relief, lifesaving blood services, health and safety training, international aid and emergency social services. It is organized as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
Operating through a national network of chapters, volunteers and paid staff, the Red Cross supplies a large share of the nation’s blood, runs widespread preparedness and training programs, and deploys personnel to shelter, feed and support families after disasters. In the last 2–3 years the organization has conducted large-scale responses to hurricanes, floods, wildfires and other crises and has run national campaigns to address critical blood shortages and support recovery.
