About THE FLORIDA THEATRE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, INC.

The Florida Theatre Performing Arts Center, Inc. is the nonprofit manager and programmer of the historic Florida Theatre in downtown Jacksonville, operating the 1,865-seat venue in a long-standing public/private partnership with the City of Jacksonville since 1987. The organization programs concerts, dance, film, storytelling and community events while stewarding a nationally recognized historic landmark. In recent years the theatre has been among Pollstar’s Top 5 theatres in the U.S. for venues under 2,000 seats and has maintained high annual attendance and broad regional impact. The organization also runs education and outreach programming (school performances, the Untold Stories storytelling series and related partnerships) and completed a major phase of renovation with continued capital work planned.

Notable achievements

Record programming and attendance (FY2024)

In fiscal year 2024 the theatre produced a busy season with 209 performances and served over 200,000 people, its busiest year since 2007 and one of the highest annual attendance totals in the venue’s history.

Major renovation phase completed (2023)

A significant renovation phase concluded with a ribbon cutting on October 27, 2023; $17.2 million in improvements were completed in the prior five years and additional capital projects remain in the multi‑year plan to restore and expand audience and artist facilities.

Sustained fundraising and community events

The Florida Theatre Ball and related fundraisers raised six‑figure support for operations and preservation (the Ball raised over $200,000 in the referenced year), and the organization programmed free community events such as the Jax River Jams series to expand public access.
