About JACKSONVILLE SPORTS MEDICINE PROGRAM INC

Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program, Inc. (JSMP) is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Jacksonville, Florida that focuses on youth sports safety through education, advocacy and injury prevention. JSMP partners with local healthcare systems, school districts, athletic trainers, team physicians and community organizations to provide training, best-practice protocols, medical coverage support, equipment and policy guidance for youth and high school athletics in Northeast Florida. In the last 2–3 years JSMP has expanded programmatic work and community impact through Project 17 (a collaborative with the NFL/Jacksonville Jaguars, City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville University), annual injury-safety symposia, AED and equipment distribution, podcasts and student career programs.

Notable achievements

Project 17 partnership to expand trainer coverage

Partnered with the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville University to form Project 17 — a collaborative effort to place full‑time certified athletic trainers and enhance safety resources across all 17 Duval County public high schools.

First Coast Sports Injury Symposium (2023)

Hosted a regional sports‑injury symposium that drew over 150 attendees, delivered more than 1,000 continuing education credits, and featured national experts on cardiac screening, heat illness and concussion care.

Measurable program impact (2023–24)

Reported large-scale service delivery in the 2023 reporting year: more than 30,000 athlete encounters, thousands of evaluations/assessments and rechecks, dedicated AEDs and heat‑safety resources (WBGT monitoring and cold tubs) at public high schools, and broad community education including coach CPR/AED certification and student healthcare career programming.
