About GENOCIDE EDUCATION PROJECT

The Genocide Education Project (GenEd) is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 59-3791802) that produces classroom-ready curriculum, video resources, and professional development to help secondary teachers teach about the Armenian Genocide and related human-rights topics. GenEd focuses on practical classroom materials and teacher training so that accurate, contextualized genocide education reaches high school students across the United States. Founded in 2005, GenEd has developed an online resource library and a nationally recognized Teacher Fellowship Program (launched in 2022 in partnership with the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute) that combines an intensive immersion in Armenia with follow-on teacher-led workshops in participants’ home regions. In the last 2–3 years GenEd has run multi-state workshops, sustained its Teacher Fellowship cohorts (2023–2025), and continued to expand freely available curriculum and webinar offerings for educators.

Notable achievements

GenEd Teacher Fellowship Program (Armenia immersion)

Established in partnership with the Armenian Genocide Museum‑Institute, the program selects fifteen U.S. secondary teachers each year for a two‑phase fellowship that includes a 10‑day intensive professional development trip to Armenia followed by teacher‑led workshops in the fellows’ home regions, with fellowship expenses covered by donor support.

Comprehensive free curriculum and resource library

Maintains an online library of classroom lesson plans, video resources, and curriculum units designed for grades 9–12; resources are provided free to educators (registration required) and are used as the basis for professional development and classroom instruction nationwide.

State and national educator trainings and partnerships

Delivered workshops and presentations at regional and national educator gatherings, collaborated with state-level Holocaust and genocide education networks, and partnered with organizations such as museum and academic institutions to broaden reach and integrate materials into teacher professional learning.
