The International Association of Law Schools (IALS) is a private, non-political, non-profit, volunteer, collaborative learned society dedicated to serving the worldwide legal education community. Its primary mission is the improvement of legal education throughout the world through convening, consensus-building, scholarship, and programs that support law schools and legal educators globally.

About INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LAW SCHOOLS

The International Association of Law Schools (IALS) is an international learned society and membership association of law schools and law faculties. Incorporated in 2005, it brings together law schools from across the globe to develop shared principles, improve curricula, and foster collaboration among legal educators. IALS represents an international network of law schools and faculty — the association reports more than 250 member law schools and departments from over 60 countries, representing over 12,000 law faculty members — and conducts annual meetings, regional fora, doctrinal study groups, and programs to advance legal education. In recent years IALS has run its Annual Meeting and the Global Law Deans’ Forum (including meetings in 2023–2025) and continues to schedule 2026 forums and its September 2026 Annual Meeting, demonstrating ongoing, active programming.

Notable achievements

Singapore Declaration on Global Standards

Led the international process that produced the Singapore Declaration on Global Standards and Outcomes of a Legal Education, a foundational consensus document intended to guide legal education reform and harmonize learning outcomes across jurisdictions.

Evaluation, Assessment & Certification Program

Developed and launched an Evaluation, Assessment, and Certification program to support quality assurance and curricular improvement in member law schools worldwide.

Sustained Global Convening (65+ meetings)

Has convened dozens of global meetings, regional fora, and annual conferences (65+ meetings and counting) that bring together deans, faculty, judges, and practitioners to collaborate on curriculum, pedagogy, and transnational legal education topics.
