About MALAMA NA HONU

MALAMA NA HONU (also styled Mālama i nā Honu) is a Hawaii-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) through volunteer-led beach education, visitor management, and long-term behavior and basking monitoring. The organization operates a volunteer “Honu Guardian” program that staffs Laniakea (Turtle) Beach on Oʻahu’s North Shore year‑round to reduce harassment and teach respectful viewing practices. MALAMA NA HONU maintains a multi-decade dataset of individual turtle identifications and basking occurrences, conducts school and public outreach, and works in partnership with federal and local resource agencies to support honu conservation and visitor stewardship on Oʻahu.
