About SNOW LEOPARD CONSERVANCY
Snow Leopard Conservancy (SLC) is a San Francisco–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 61-1614981) that supports community-led conservation and stewardship across the snow leopard’s range. The organization partners with local conservationists, Indigenous stewards, and international partners to reduce human–wildlife conflict, strengthen livelihoods, and protect high-mountain ecosystems. Founded by Dr. Rodney Jackson and run from its U.S. headquarters, SLC implements collaborative field projects (through initiatives such as the Land of Snow Leopard Network), applied research pilots, conservation education, and livelihood programs in multiple range countries. In the last few years (notably 2023–2024) SLC published annual impact reports, ran veterinary and livestock-health interventions in Nepal, piloted deterrent and monitoring technologies in Mongolia, and engaged in regional advocacy and network-building events such as participation in international conservation fora.
Notable achievements
Community Veterinary & Livestock Health Campaign (2023)
Supported community animal health in Nepal’s Trans-Himalaya—including vaccination campaigns that reached over a thousand domestic animals in 2023—to reduce disease risk and the economic impacts of depredation, strengthening people–wildlife coexistence.
Field Innovation Pilots (Foxlights, Drones, AI Camera Deterrents)
Led pilot programs testing Foxlights® predator-deterrents, drone-based ungulate surveys, and AI-enabled camera-trap deterrents in range-country projects (e.g., Mongolia and other sites) to reduce livestock losses and improve monitoring of snow leopards and their prey.
Impact Reporting & Network Building
Published multi-year SLC Impact Reports (including 2023 and 2024) and helped expand the Land of Snow Leopard Network (LOSL), supporting locally led conservation coordination across several snow leopard range countries.
